Family and Medical Leave

The federal Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) gives eligible employees the right to take time off work to recover from a serious health condition, care for a family member with a serious health condition, or bond with a new child (including adopted and foster children). In 2008, the law was amended to also cover military family leave: time off to handle practical matters relating to a family member’s military deployment or to care for a family member who was seriously injured on active military duty.

The articles in this section explain the FMLA: who is protected by the law, which employers must comply, what types of time off are covered, how to enforce your rights under the law, and much more.
